Membership Criteria

Members and Tenant Associations should uphold our Points of Unity and Group Agreements.

Membership is open to tenants in Chittenden County. Members can vote in formal decision-making processes. ​

Residents who have been displaced from the area can retain their membership and voting rights for as long as they are active in the Union.

No landlords or agents of landlords are permitted to be members.

Allies and comrades of BTU include homeowners and friends from outside organizations who support our efforts. They are welcome at meetings, can participate and help to shape our decision making, but only BTU members can vote on formal decisions.
Committments

Organizing Commitment: You commit to becoming the building representative for your apartment building.This role commits you to being conscious of your building’s conditions, your neighbor’s conditions and so on.

Participation Commitment: Participate in activities that build & energize the movement such as actions, trainings, general membership meetings, strategy session meetings, building-level Tenant Association meetings or a meeting of tenants in several buildings owned by the same landlord, cultural events or film screenings; etc.

Contribution Commitment: Commit to contributing art, testimonials, poetry, updates, or whatever your Tenant Association sees fit to the organization
